We have been learning about Latin America and the different societies that flourished in Mesoamerica in Social Studies. We are almost finished studying the Mayan civilization and will be moving onto the Aztecs. These two groups along with the Toltec and Olmec people flourished within Mesoamerica for thousands of years prior to contact with the Spanish. It has been great to learn about these cultures and the many accomplishments that they are known for and still celebrated today. With November 1st and 2nd coming up soon and a way to integrate art into our curriculum, we thought it would be fun for the kids to be able to decorate a sugar skull as we learn about these amazing people and their culture. Dia de los Muertos is a holiday for the Mexican and Mexican Americans to honor their loved ones. If you have any questions or concerns, please email one of us.
We have started off the year learning about maps. The students created excellent imaginative islands about themselves and learned what a compass rose, legend, and land features are. We are also introducing them to many different landforms like an isthmus, cape, basin, and many more!
